Error message

I used Freda OK before but the last few books came up with:

"Error when trying to start reading aloud"

and it does not work. Reinstaling it made no difference.

Could you check on your device whether text-to-speech is working generally - perhaps see whether Google Assistant is able to read out voice cues, and take a look in Settings under 'Text-to-Speech' output.  If pressing 'Play' on the Text-to-Speech settings screen is working, but Freda is not managing to read aloud, please post (or email) again.

Text to Speech is OK, and it seems that some books just do not work on Freda but do on other readers.

Text to Speech is OK, and it seems that some books just do not work on Freda but do on other readers.

One possibility could be that the language of the book is not set right.  From the main app screen, long-tap on the book and from the menu that pops up choose the 'edit' option.  Then scroll down to find the book's language (it'll be next to a 'language' icon consisting of the letter A and a kanji symbol).  For text-to-speech to work in Freda, that should be set to a language code that the phone recognises - for instance EN for English, ES for Spanish, FR for French, etc.  If it is not set right, just enter the right language code and tap 'save'.

If this isn't the issue, please could you email one of the problematic books to me, and I will investigate further.
