Text scrunching up on the Left.
#1
Hello

I was recently sent a Epub book by its author and when I try to open the file with Freda (and Aquile), it seems that some of the text is scrunched up over the top of itself on the left side of the page.
I am using a Microsoft laptop and I am not much above sending emails in terms of computer skills. Is there anyone who might be able to suggest where the problem lies?
Would a screen shot of one of the pages help? I don't seem to be having much success with that either.

Thanks

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

In Freda's setting screen, you can try adjusting the setting 'CSS Rendering' to 'simplified' (or to 'none').  If the author has used various clever EPUB formatting features, it may be confusing Freda.  By changing that setting, you'll tell Freda to ignore these features, which might produce a better result.

Alternatively (or as well) you can email the book to me, and I will do some debugging to figure out what the issue is.  I am at jim@turnipsoft.co.uk.

I hope that helps.

Thanks Jim

That fixed the scrunching problem - using both 'simplified' and 'none'.
Which leaves me wondering which clever EPUB formatting features I am missing out on. I suspect that the author may have inserted hyper-link features which link to his website and, possibly, some of his own voice recordings demonstrating what he has described in the text, but I am only guessing.
Would you be at all interested in discussing this with the author?

Hi Jennifer,
Glad to hear the 'simplified' and 'none' CSS rendering settings fixed the text issue in Freda. Regarding the EPUB features you might be missing, it's possible the author included advanced formatting, hyperlinks, or multimedia elements like audio.
Did you discuss this with the author?
