Freda – small question about usage
#1
Hi everyone,
I’ve just started using Freda and so far it works great
I just wanted to ask if there’s a recommended way to manage large book libraries more efficiently, or any tips for performance with bigger files?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,

For libraries of a hundred or so books, Freda works reasonably well - and you can use the 'tag' and 'filter' features to organise books (by genre or whatever else) so you can easily find any particular book or subject of interest.  For really large libraries, Freda isn't very efficient however.  If you have several hundred or more books to organise, I'd recommend using Calibre (https://calibre-ebook.com/download).  That lets you set up a library on a PC which you can use with Freda.  It does take a bit of setting up, but you'll find detailed instructions in this forum, under https://www.turnipsoft.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=7 and https://www.turnipsoft.com/forums/showth...p?tid=1727 .

As for performance with larger book files, I don't have any brilliant suggestions to offer.  In the settings screen (under 'book processing') you can switch 'recolour monochrome images' and 'display background images' to 'no' - which, in the case of books containing a lot of diagrams, may make things go a bit faster.

Do post again with further questions - or email me if you prefer (jim@turnipsoft.co.uk)

Thanks,

Jim
