Today was the first time it came back after a restart (twice). As it only ever occurs when using Freda I assumed they were related. Usually restarting the system problem goes away.
That looks like the Windows on-screen volume slider control, that is stuck on your screen for some reason. I found this article on-line that offers some hints for how to make it go away:

I'd suggest first trying unplugging your keyboard, and then running the audio troubleshooter - the other ideas may be worth a go too, but some of them look rather drastic.

When it occurs again I will again look at your suggestions if the problem persists. I have not (yet) had the Pc freeze on me and hope that does not happen. I just find it annoying. Again many thanks for your help

Hi Again Jim.
As I posted on Microsoft after a reset of my Pc and reinstalling Freda I was back to the free version As the cost is very small and I like Freda so much I today bought it again but but no sooner I did, the pesky slider came back but after your help the last time I ran the audio troubleshooter and sure enough that was indeed the problem. As this only happens with Freda I am debating buying a new keyboard but I will leave it for now as I have tried to seek help from Microsoft (not that I expect much help from them all I got was a virtual assistant which was a complete waste of time. Anyway back to my query do I have to enter a licence key to get Freda to be registered as the full version?
