If you want to set Calibre up so that it uses Freda to read the book (instead of using Calibre's built-in book reader) whenever you tap on an EPUB file, you can do this:
1) Check that Freda is your machine's default app for opening EPUBs (start File Explorer, find an EPUB file, click on it, and verify that it opens with Freda; if it does not, then right-click, pick Open-With, pick 'choose another app' and select Freda, and check the 'always use this app' box).
2) Start Calibre, Open 'Preferences', 'Change Calibre Behaviour', then in the 'Interface' section choose 'Behaviour'
3) In the list of book file types on the right of the page, under the heading 'use internal viewer for' make sure that EPUB has no check mark.
4) Then use the 'Apply' button to save the new setting.

I've just stumbled over a book--Terry Pratchett's "I Shall Wear Midnight" in epub format--which Freda shows as having exactly one page, that being the page with the cover.  The table of contents is recognized, but tapping the entries does nothing.

This is Freda for Windows, on two different Windows 10 computers.  The epub reader in Microsoft Edge and the Calibre viewer have no trouble with the book.

For obvious reasons, I can't share the book.  Any suggestions about what might have gone wrong, or suggestions for troubleshooting?

Does Freda have a dictionary function?

This is the best application right now for readers for the Windows operating system available. However, I cannot find how I sometimes jump to specific page number if I want. If this feature is not already a part of the application can it be requested?

I purchased the + app and downloaded the book I want to read. I'm stuck on (-/-) and the blue dots moving on the top for over 8 hours. I have tried deleting and downloading it all over again and it didn't help.

Also, page numbers and index are all messed up on the same file which i assume can be because the damn thing wont finish scanning.

I run my Calibre server over the web through a reverse proxy, and I can't get Freda to leave my URL unmangled (adding the colon, http, and opds to the string).  Other apps for Android and such have no problems with my server, such as MoonReader or Aldiko, and it should work fine with Freda if I could just get a "Specify exact URL" field.  Even if there were a config file I could be pointed at in order to manually enter the information to be read at startup, that would be fine.

Freda can read out text, using any language pack (voice) that is installed on your device.  But it can happen that the text is read in the wrong language.  The fix to this is to adjust the 'language' of the book.  In detail:

PROBLEM: My book is in German, but Freda reads it using an English voice; it sounds like an English person trying to pronounce German.
SOLUTION: In the bookshelf, right-click (or long-tap) the book, and when the menu pops up, select Edit.  Find the 'Language' field on the screen, and enter the two-letter language code for the appropriate language - in this case DE . Tap 'ok' to save this change, and Freda will now realise that the book is in German, and will read it using a German voice.

You can select text in Freda by long-tapping/right clicking, and then dragging the selection handles.

If you want to make it easier to select text, you can change the behaviour of the drag gesture so that, instead of moving the page, it will select text; that is the 'swipe action' option at the top of the controls page.

Freda's normal action on selected text, when the text is tapped, is to pop up a menu, offering various options - highlight, bookmark, find, copy, etc.  If you want Freda to always perform the same action, you can make this happen by using the controls ribbon that pops up at the top of the screen, when ... is tapped.  The right-most item on the controls ribbon shows what Freda does with selected text - tap that item, and you can change its behaviour.

In this video, you can see how to do this, and set Freda up so that every time you select a piece of text, a window will pop up, showing that text translated into German.

Freda's appearance and behaviour can be customised in many ways.  You can access:
Settings: To change the colour and layout of text on the page, and also to change the colour scheme and background image on the main Freda screen.

Controls: To assign custom gestures (such as the effect of tapping the various corners of the page).

Presets: To apply a 'preset', which is to say a named group of settings, all applied in one go.  You can add, delete and change presets, to suit  your personal tastes.
